Anniversary Celebration!

Congratulations to the Epicurean Feast Staff for a great first year!
April marked the One Year Anniversary at Don’s Place, the café at CTDI in PA. We celebrated the event with CTDI by offering a sampling of favorites from each station capped off with Carved Tenderloin at the Entrée Station. Our team at CTDI, Peter Pray, Chef Manager; Angela Jamison, Cashier; and Edith Miller, Grill/Deli Cook did a great job in preparing and presenting the “Taste of Don’s Place Favorites”.

Gerald Parsons, Chairman and CEO of CTDI and Leo Parsons, President and COO addressed the associates before “cutting” the celebration cake. Don’s Place is a gathering place for CTDI associates and we are pleased to provide our services in this upscale café. Paul Rennie and Steve Miller were also on hand for the event. Based on the turnout and feedback received – it was a big success!

Veggie Van Runs on Biofuel

As part of its multi-faceted response to global warming and to protect our environment, Epicurean Feast client EMD Serono has retrofitted a van to run on biodiesel fuel. This van, dubbed the Veggie Van and painted a vibrant green, travels the streets to promote biodiesel fuel and other renewable energies.

The Veggie Van actually runs on vegetable oil.  The oil is collected from the café and is then converted into fuel. This fuel produces only about 20 percent of the pollutants of a normal diesel engine.
The Veggie Van provides educational outreach to children and people of all ages. Visitors step inside a mobile classroom where they can watch DVDs on global warming and pollution and find out about what alternative fuels can do for them, the environment and their pocketbooks. Epicurean Feast is working on a new initiative to have all of our used frying oil uitlized to create low polluting fuels.

Company donates $5,000 to Save the Children in Haiti

January 25, 2010

I am writing you regarding the current situation in Haiti. This has been a terrible tragedy over the last ten days that has unfolded for the entire world to see. I want you to know that we have a responsibility as individual people to help in any way that we can. There has been tremendous loss of life and tremendous devastation and it is incumbent on us to help if we can find a way to do so for the people who are affected. In that regard, I want to encourage each of you to be involved in any way you deem appropriate, whether it’s with a community group, your local church, or an agency you interact with and have helped support other causes in the past. In those situations where our customers have asked us to help them raise awareness among their employees we are participating, as they deem necessary.

I also want you to know that the company has donated $5,000 to Save the Children which is an international organization that has a role in Haiti and has been working in Haiti since 1988 with children. We will watch the situation as it unfolds. As you probably all are aware there has been a tremendous outpouring of supplies and help, so much so that it is difficult to get all of the help on the ground in Haiti as we speak. We will keep an eye as a company and we hope you will as well as individuals as the situation continues and we will and we will help in any way we feel we appropriately can.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with the people and with the country of Haiti in this terrible time and we urge you all to be sensitive, to be kind, and to do all that you can to help in any way you can.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely yours,
Bob Watson
President & CEO

$5 Favor Feedback

Click the above link to read some of the feedback stories.

Excerpt from Company Letter on February 23rd, 2009

Dear Employee:

I am writing to ask you a favor but before I do so I want to thank those of you who have taken the time to write or call me since my last letter. I am so proud to be the president of a company with so many good employees. Now the favor, enclosed please find a $5 bill. I would like to ask that you take this $5 bill and put it in the hands of someone other than yourself. You make the call. Take five minutes to decide or five days. What I would like for you to do is give it to someone who is in need. We know that our country is having a terrible time and we know its only $5 but if you give it to someone really in need it will go a long way. By doing so you will feel better and by doing so they will too.

We should all try to help and I hope this small token will help in some way. I am proud of you all and please keep up the good work.

Sincerely Yours,

Bob Watson

President & CEO

Epicurean Feast President Receives the 2009 Robert F. Kennedy Award

This award is presented to those organizations and individuals whose extraordinary actions reflect Robert F. Kennedy's compassion, values, vision, and commitment to making the world a better place for children and families.

A long-time advocate for juvenile justice, Mr. Watson (President and CEO of LPM Holding Company) has volunteered with many child-welfare organizations including Crossroads for Kids and Community Resources for Justice where his generosity led to the establishment of Watson Academy, an educational enrichment program for youth. He has also been recognized as a blood platelet donor at The Children's Hospital in Boston for 23 years and is in the Guinness Book of Records for his achievement.

From Childrens Hospital News:

Blood Donor of the Month
Congratulations to Children’s Blood Donor of the Month for April, Bob Watson. When Children’s began collecting platelets in 1986, the manager asked Watson, a regular donor, if he was interested in giving that type of donation a try. Now, more than 20 years later, Watson continues to donate platelets and has even held the title of Most Platelet Donations in the Guinness World Book of Records.
Watson recently reached his 700th platelet donation milestone and doesn’t see himself stopping any time soon. "I like people and I like helping kids anonymously," he says. "This is a great way to do it."  Donating blood is only a part of the contribution that Watson has made for Children’s. He served on the Board of Overseers for many years and his charity, LPM Charitable Foundation, sponsors a golf tournament to raise money for
Children’s programs called the Don and Connie Watson Charity Golf Tournament. It’s held each summer at the Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland and last year, it raised more than $90,000 for charities including the Blood Donor Center.
Whether donating platelets or his time raising money for Children’s, Watson’s generosity is always on full display. If you are interested in giving blood or would like more information, call 617-355-6677 or visit childrenshospital.org/donateblood.
